Shiatsu Center
"When you touch something with deep awareness, you touch everything"
Lao Tzu
The Shiatsu Center of APAJap was born from the need to strengthen the presence and representation of this traditional Japanese therapy in Portugal and to recognize its value as an independent practice of its own merit.
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu (指圧), literally "finger pressure", is a manual therapy developed in Japan that combines the ancestral wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine with Japanese diagnostic and treatment techniques.
It is based on the application of pressure on energy meridians (or energy channels) and their corresponding points, called tsubos. The goal is to restore energetic balance (Ki) and promote the physical, emotional, and mental harmony of the patient. It is a non-invasive practice, performed without the use of equipment, and can help relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, improve circulation, and support the immune system.
With its own methodology, Shiatsu is intrinsically linked to other therapeutic disciplines in Japan, such as Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Anpuku (abdominal massage), and Cupping therapy. All these techniques share a holistic view of health, focused on promoting energetic balance and preventing diseases.
By reinforcing this connection, the core aims to highlight the central role of Shiatsu within the broader context of traditional Japanese medicine.
🌿 Mission of the Shiatsu Core of APAJap
The Shiatsu Center of APAJap has the mission to promote and consolidate the presence of Shiatsu in Portugal as an autonomous, safe therapeutic practice rooted in the tradition of Japanese medicine, contributing to the well-being of society and the institutional recognition of this art of care.
Based on a holistic view of health, the Center works to:
-
Enhance Shiatsu as an integrative therapeutic practice, preserving its integrity, holistic approach, and technical rigor.
-
Support quality training initiatives aligned with the principles of professional ethics, patient safety, and international standards.
-
Encourage dialogue, cooperation, and coordination among professionals, schools, associations, and regulatory entities, aiming for the construction of a clear, dignified, and sustainable framework for the practice of Shiatsu
-
Raise awareness among civil society and policymakers about the benefits of Shiatsu, promoting its access and integration into the healthcare system from a complementary and preventive perspective.
-
Encourage research, knowledge sharing, and national and international exchange as tools for continuous evolution and professional affirmation.
The core operates with a spirit of openness, collaboration, and social responsibility, inviting all Shiatsu professionals to join efforts so that this therapeutic art is widely recognized, valued, and sincerely experienced in Portugal.
Actions and initiatives
Inspired by the guidance of the European Shiatsu Federation (ESF), we promote initiatives to raise public awareness of the therapeutic value of Shiatsu and to strengthen its practice. These actions include events, promotional campaigns, training activities, and meetings that encourage the sharing of experiences among professionals.
We also value the exchange of knowledge with national and international therapists, always with the aim of raising standards of quality, ethics, and safety in the practice of Shiatsu.
Invitation
We invite Shiatsu therapists to join us in this purpose of strengthening Shiatsu in Portugal, contributing to a future where this therapeutic art is widely recognized, valued, and integrated into the health system.
